Mental Fitness Programs¶
Mental fitness programs cover book-learning, interrogation resistance, social polish, and language work. They raise the three mental abilities, shore up mental saves, and broaden an operator's skill list.
Education Training 1-4¶
Academic study and technical schooling. Each level increases your Intelligence score by 1 (respecting your racial or class maximum).
Resolve Training 1-4¶
Mental discipline and stress inoculation. Each level increases your Wisdom score by 1 (respecting your racial or class maximum).
Social Training 1-4¶
Interpersonal fluency, tradecraft in persuasion and deception. Each level increases your Charisma score by 1 (respecting your racial or class maximum).
Mental Saves Training 1-4¶
Each level may be taken once per save (INT, WIS, or CHA).
Hardening against mind-affecting threats: fear, manipulation, interrogation. Pick a save the first time you take Level 1; further levels apply to that same save. Take the track again from Level 1 for a different save.
- Level 1: Proficiency in the chosen save.
- Level 2: +1 to that save.
- Level 3: An additional +1 to that save (total +2 from this track).
- Level 4: Advantage on that save.
Mental Skills Training 1-5¶
Each level may be taken once per skill.
General-purpose academic and social skill training. Pick a mental skill when you first take Level 1; further levels apply to that same skill. Take the track again from Level 1 for a different skill.
Eligible skills: History, Investigation, Nature, Religion, Animal Handling, Insight, Medicine, Perception, Survival, Deception, Intimidation, Performance, or Persuasion.
- Level 1: Proficiency in the chosen skill.
- Level 2: +1 to checks with that skill.
- Level 3: Once per long rest, reroll a critical failure (natural 1) on a check with that skill.
- Level 4: An additional +1 to checks (total +2).
- Level 5: The reroll is instead available once per short rest.
Language Training 1-5¶
Each level may be taken once per language.
Fluency in a chosen language. Pick a language when you first take Level 1; further levels improve that language. Take the track again from Level 1 for a different language. Each tier represents how complex a passage you can handle: simple phrases pass at DC 10, working-level conversation at DC 15, nuance and jargon at DC 20. At your current tier, no check is needed; above it, you roll the relevant check to get the message across.
| Task | Ability Check |
|---|---|
| Speak | Charisma |
| Write | Dexterity |
| Read | Intelligence |
- Level 1 (Basic): Handle simple exchanges (DC 10 content) without a check. More complex material requires the appropriate check.
- Level 2 (Moderate): Handle working-level conversation (DC 15 content) without a check.
- Level 3 (Expert): Handle nuanced, idiomatic, or technical material (DC 20 content) without a check.
- Level 4 (Master): You are fluent. No check is ever required for this language.
- Level 5: You can lip-read a speaker of that language if you can see their face clearly.
